Cherokee Purple Tomato Rich, Full Bodied Flavor This Beefsteak-size tomato is an old Cherokee Indian heirloom variety! introduced into commerce before 1890. In spite of competition from more than 3,000 commercial varieties, its unique color and rich, meaty flavor have kept it a favorite with thousands of gardeners. The fruits are a dusky purple. They shine like polished mahogany, slice to reveal a dark red interior, and measure 5 inches across. The bushy vines are vigorous, require just short stakes, for loads of fruit within 85 days.
